We are expecting that to change any day now, but hope it won't be over Christmas. Birds are busy at the feeders and the CBC counters are finding lots of species. In Otter Tail County , Alma Ronningen had a late YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER at her feeder in Dent on December 20. AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS were seen in the yard. Ben Wieland reported a CAROLINA WREN at Ten Mile Lake on the Walker CBC on December 16. A VARIED THRUSH was seen by Thomas Malone outside the circle on the south side of CR 84 on the east side of Island Lake. In Hubbard County, Marshall Howe reported BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS in Park Rapids on December 14. PINE GROSBEAKS were seen in Dorset on December 17, ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, NORTHERN SHRIKE, and 2 RED CROSSBILLS were seen on December 18. On the 20th, Marshall Howe had a flock of 100 COMMON REDPOLLS and two HOARY REDPOLLS in his yard near Dorset. Linda Schumann reported a flock of EVENING GROSBEAKS at Rainbow resort in Becker County on December 17. Mark Otnes saw a probable GYRFALCON just north of Downer in Clay County on December 14. Keith Corliss reported that the Fargo-Moorhead CBC found 12 species of waterfowl including GREEN-WINGED TEAL, REDHEAD, WOOD DUCK, AMERICAN BLACK DUCK, RING-NECKED DUCK, RUDDY DUCK and NORTHERN PINTAIL. Other species seen on the Clay County side of the river included NORTHERN GOSHAWK, HORNED LARK, BOHEMIAN WAXWING, HARRIS'S SPARROW, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, and WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL. In Polk County, Emily Hutchins reported 79 GREATER PRAIRIE-CHICKENS, 3 BALD EAGLES, 3 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, a EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE in Crookston, and 175 COMMON REDPOLLS on the Crookston CBC on December 15. On December 17, she found 20 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS a mile west of Mentor, and 20 GREATER PRAIRIE-CHICKENS along CR 45 east of MN 32. Sandy Aubol reported two HOARY REDPOLLS in East Grand Forks on December 18. A large flock of SNOW BUNTINGS was seen along CR 20 on December 19. On December 15, 233 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen on the southwest side of Warren in Marshall County by Heidi Hughes. and a SNOWY OWL was found 8 miles west of the Audubon Center on the 19th. Lynda Knutsen saw an AMERICAN ROBIN in Middle River on December 16. Reporting on the 20th from Agassiz NWR, Lynda reported that a BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, PINE GROSBEAKS , and COMMON REDPOLLS continue to be seen at refuge headquarters. Unusual is a RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD hanging around headquarters the last few days. Thanks to all who sent in sightings this week .
