In Staples and Wadena the earlier reported Pine Grosbeaks remain in fruit
trees throughout town.

Three white-winged crossbills were present at my in-laws near Whitetail Run
golf course north of Wadena. My mother in law also informed me a male
Evening Grosbeak was at her feeder yesterday, but unfortunately I was
unable to relocate or observe that species.

On a related note, a common redpoll flew into my parents window yesterday.
I was able to pick up the bird and allow the four grandchildren (1-5) close
observation and discussion of the northern visitors. Luckily fifteen
minutes after returning her to the feeder, she flew away to the joy of the
kids watching (luckily it turned out positively).
