The gray catbird found by Jeff Weitzel on the Willmar CBC was alive and looking
healthy when I saw it on Jan. 3rd. The homeowner said it is eating lots of
sunflower. I left him a large piece of suet to cut up. He has not given
permission to post the location, but anyone wanting to see the bird could
contact me and I will forward the request.
Despite MUCH searching the past several weeks, we have found zero pine
grosbeaks or crossbills in Kandiyohi county. The grosbeaks are just north of
us, but in modest numbers even there. Conversely my feeders at home are
hosting the largest flock of redpolls I've ever had. I counted most of the
flock (180) before they flushed the other day, so the flock is 200+ birds, with
at least one hoary.
