There are still many flooded fields in Sibley County, a few of these contained
some migrant shorebirds this morning.
The area north of the intersection of county highways 12 and 13 has been
extensively flooded by High Island Creek, much of this flooded area is probably
currently too deep and grassy.
However the area to the west of 447th Ave. and north of county 12 held 46
Lesser Yellowlegs this morning. There was no Cliff Swallow activity at 447th
Ave. this morning, I'm guessing the large colony in this culvert was wiped out
by the high water. The colony two sections east was still very active today.
Elsewhere:
Flooded field north of county 15, 1/4 mile east of county 9: 12 Least
Sandpipers.
Flooded field at county 12 (361st Ave.) - 240th St. intersection: 1 Greater
Yellowlegs, 8 Lesser Yellowlegs, 15 Least Sandpipers, 1 Short-billed Dowitcher.
Also, a Red-headed Woodpecker was on a fence post at the 371st Ave – 238th St.
intersection.
