This morning there was a traumatic incident with a juvenile goldfinch and some grape jelly I have for the orioles. As I approached the hanging oriole feeder that was filled with grape jelly I noticed something odd in the feeder tray. When I got closer I realized it was a juvenile goldfinch literally stuck in the grape jelly. His little body was deep in the grape stuff and he literally could not move. I scooped him out and ran to the backyard blabbing to my husband to meet me at the garden hose. I held the bird while my husband gently gave him a shower with the hose nozzle until he looked less grape like. There were blobs of jelly on his face that I removed with my fingers so we didn't have to shower near his eyes.

Keeping him cupped in my hand I held him in the sun for a few minutes ... he simply let me ... then he shook the water off and safely flew to the nearest bush!

I was exhausted after but so grateful he was all right!
