This morning (Sunday) I was joined by eight birders to brave blood sucking
mosquitos and energy sucking heat to explore the state forest trail along
the bottom lands of the Cannon and Vermillion rivers for the annual August
MRVAC Cannon River Bottoms field trip. We found this trail off of
Collischan Road near Red Wing in remarkably better condition than previous
years. Apparently the state or whoever has finally gotten around to
maintaining the trail.

The specialty of the trip has been Cuckoos and this year, while we did not
see any, we heard several of both kinds. We had fifteen species of
warbler including Cerulean, Blackburnian, and Prothonotary. We had several
flycatchers including Olive-sided, Willow, and possible Acadian.
