A female KING EIDER was found by Greg Garmer on the 12th at 21st Avenue East and Water Street at Beacon Pointe in Duluth. A female BARROW'S GOLDENEYE and a pair of WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS was seen by Erik Bruhnke and others at the same location on the 12th. At Canal Park in Duluth on the 8th, Mike Hendrickson, Karl Bardon and Peder Svingen photographed a possible VEGA GULL, which is currently considered an East Asian subspecies of HERRING GULL but may be split into a separate species in the future. GLAUCOUS GULLS, THAYER'S GULLS, ICELAND GULLS, and GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULLS continue to be seen at Canal Park. Warren Nelson and Butch Ukura saw three GREAT GRAY OWLS in Aitkin County on the 10th along CR 18, between Pietz's Road and the Hebron Cemetery, and they were still present on the 12th. Warren and Butch saw two SNOWY OWLS in Aitkin County on the 10th, with one near the junction of CR 1 and CR 22 about three miles north of Aitkin and another along US Highway 169 about 4.5 miles north and east of Aitkin.
