Curt Rawn and I enjoyed great looks at the Northern Hawk Owl just north of Hutchinson late this morning.
The bird hung out about 0.5 miles south of the original intersection of Tagus Avenue (a.k.a County Road 12) and 230th Street. Specifically, it was near the 22517 driveway entrance (look for the sign that reads "Mid-Minnesota Septic Services") on the west side of Tagus Avenue. It mostly perched on the east side of the road and it was always perched on a telephone pole. It flew frequently, although it did not appear that cars or birders were scaring it up. The times we saw the owl were from 10:30-11am; then we lost it for about half an hour until we found it right by 22517 again. One to two other cars were viewing the bird when we left around 12pm.
