This has been a slow time for bird sightings with all the hot weather, but many fledglings are being taught about bird feeders, and yards are full of strange sounds. >From Roseau County, among the species reported by Beth Siverhus this week, were COMMON LOON, TURKEY VULTURE, FRANKLIN'S GULL, COMMON TERN, PURPLE MARTIN, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, and LE CONTES SPARROW. In Marshall County on July 22, Sandy Aubol found two UPLAND SANDPIPERS at the beginning of the approach to the Agassiz Valley Impoundment southeast of Warren. Other species there were 2 RED-NECKED GREBES, DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT, AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN, and LESSER YELLOWLEGS. These last species were also seen on the Polk County side of the impoundment. In Polk County at the East Grand Forks WTP, Sandy Aubol found at least 2 EARED GREBES with young on July 24. Wilber Russell reported a pair of RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS with young at the East Grand Forks greenway on July 26. Charlene Nelson in Grant County on July 24 noted many fledglings, and said that the TREE SWALLOWS are gathering together. Thanks to Beth Siverhus, Charlene Nelson, Sandy Aubol, and Wilber Russell for their reports.
