Had some interesting waterfowl Saturday near where the Long Prairie River
flows out of Lake Carlos, a female Scaup (Lesser?), two Drake Common
Mergansers and a single Pied-Billed Grebe, as well as a Trumpeter and a
Canada Goose. Hardly any raptors in the area I birded, a single Bald Eagle
and a Northern Shrike. Only a few finches and a handful of Horned Larks.
Not a lot of snow cover outside wooded areas and areas of local rivers and
streams were running. John Ellis-St. Paul
