Hi,

In front of my yard today I saw an odd bluebird. Very characteristic beak and
size and orange breast. But the back was blacker than blue. I saw it fly off
our mailbox to the top of a tall spruce tree across the street. I retrieved my
12x binocs and still didn't see the bluer back I am familiar with. It later
flew in to a red osier dogwood on our lawn but didn't stay there long enough to
get a better view. Could this be a western bluebird? Or do easterns get that
dark?

Thanks,

Mike Koutnik
