I glanced out my window as I was eating lunch at the Carlos Avery Headquarters, and caught a glimpse of a very large dark raptor with a relatively small head. A golden eagle! I rushed outside with binocs and caught one quick view of its underwings as it banked. It was circling on the strong west wind and was quickly out of sight to the SE.
This morning I spotted a Northern Shrike on 205th Ave. Yesterday at Carlos Avery there were at least two rough-legged hawks hovering in the strong winds.
