We are slowly making our way through the fall season. Some of the snow
remains, but most has melted. Temperatures are chilly but not cold yet. The
mix of birds being seen is changing with more and more rough-legged hawks,
pine grosbeaks, and  snow buntings being reported.
 
PINE GROSBEAKS  were reported in Douglas County near Miltona by John Ellis.
He also saw BLACK SCOTERS  on Lake Osakis on November 10.
 
In Cass County, the HARLEQUIN DUCK  has been relocated in Walker, on
November 11 behind the Shingobee Sports Bar around the north docks.
 
Wayne Perala observed many SNOW GEESE  and SNOW BUNTINGS  near the Orwell
Dam in Otter Tail County on November 14. In Fergus Falls he saw HARRIS'S
SPARROW, and reported that three BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS remained in the
city.
 
>From Clay County, Matt Jacobson saw several ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS  on November
14. Kathleen MacAulay found a GREAT BLUE HERON  in Clay County on November
11. An ICELAND GULL  was reported by Heather Hundt on November 13 at the
Clay County Gravel Pits.
 
Sandy Aubol at East Grand Forks in Polk County reported 16 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS
at the East Grand Forks golf course on November 13. This week she had at the
feeder and in her yard HARRIS'S SPARROW, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, RED
CROSSBILLS, PINE SISKINS, COMMON REDPOLLS, a pair of NORTHERN CARDINALS, a
SHARP-SHINNED HAWK and  a NORTHERN SHRIKE. A SNOWY OWL  was reported along
US 2 between East Grand Forks and Crookston.
 
Marshall Howe in Hubbard County reported HOODED MERGANSERS, COMMON
MERGANSERS, and a RING-BILLED GULL  on November 10,  PINE GROSBEAKS, COMMON
REDPOLL, and BROWN CREEPER  on November 11. On November 12, he saw RED
CROSSBILLS, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE, and RUFFED GROUSE,
and on November 14 he had PINE SISKINS, and  COMMON REDPOLLS.
 
At Preacher's Grove in Clearwater County  this week Marshall Howe saw
WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL, and a NORTHERN SHRIKE, and elsewhere in the county
some COMMON MERGANSERS.
 
A NORTHERN HAWK OWL  was observed by Beth Siverhus along MN 72 in Beltrami
County on November 12. PINE GROSBEAKS  were reported by Katie Haws near
Hines on November 9. A VARIED THRUSH  was seen by Doug Johnson at Mary Lou
Marchand's feeder in Bemidji.
 
Larry Wilebski reported that a SNOWY OWL   has returned to Kittson County as
of November 15. He also observed COMMON REDPOLLS and PINE GROSBEAKS. A
WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL  was reported by Peggy Fenster in Hallock on November
14.
