Good Day Minnesota Ornithologists' Union!

My name is Joshua Koelsch and I am the Assistant Area Wildlife Manager in
Pine County. I thought it was worth sharing that I am currently drawing
down an impoundment in Pine County. As of yesterday (8/16/2018) there were
no mud flats visible, but i would suspect that some will become to be
visible today or this weekend. The drawdown is occurring for management
(possible winter or spring rx burn to reduce cattail competition and open
pockets of vegetation up for waterfowl use) and maintenance (pond levels
have failed).

Site Location: Chengwatana State Forest; Pine County, MN
Dates of drawdown: 8/15/2018- Spring (April/May) 2019
Directions: From Intersection of Pine County Highway 10 and Chengwatana
Road, take Chengwatana Road approximately 2.5 miles and the impoundment will
be on the north side of the road. ( google map directions from Interstate
35 (https://goo.gl/maps/GX97scRGnV12)

Any questions please let me know!
