Yesterday a group of us set out to find SMITH’S LONGSPURS in Cottonwood
County. Cold, windy conditions made for pretty poor birding conditions and
no Smith’s. Today was much warmer and a little less windy. John Hockema and
I were able to kick up 4 Smith's at Rock Ridge Prairie SNA. The SNA is
directly northwest of the petroglyphs.

We made a stop at the Mountain Lake WTP where we found 3 BLACK SCOTERS, a
first county record. Also present were Canada, cackling, snow, and
white-fronted geese.
