We are a week into the spring season, and despite the unseasonably frigid
temperatures that did little to stop a good handful of BALD EAGLES, and the
first
COOPERÂ’S HAWK and SHARP-SHINNED HAWK heading north to their breeding
grounds.

This past week we broke the record low (-15F/-26C) in Duluth on the 4th set in
1875! The snow pack is measurable in feet. We had almost 35 inches during
February, also a record. Take a look at Finland, MN up the shore, they have had
over 130 inches (almost 11 feet!!) this winter so far.

Feel free to stop by! We will be stationed either at Enger Tower on West
Skyline
Parkway with south and westerly winds, and if there are easterly flow to the
winds we will be at Thompson Hill Rest Area also on West Skyline Parkway. The
count goes until mid-late May. Visit hawkridge.org for more information on
events for public and MOU members during April and May.

Frank Nicoletti will be the main counter and we have a Count Interpreter for
visitors most days too.

We have had over 100 BALD EAGLES so far, and the first GOLDEN EAGLE
yesterday.

Count location for each day will be posted on Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory
Facebook page as will photos, videos and other relevant sightings and
information. You can also find us on Instagram for those inclined.

The live count can be seen at the link below.

Hope to see you there!
