Bde MakaSka (Calhoun) was still about 1/3 open this morning in
6˚ F.  weather.  A few very hardy birds still present: common
mergansers, American goldeneye, and six sleeping swans. Could
not ID but probably trumpeters.  Why still open?  The lake is 
over 90 feet deep and one of the last to freeze over.
