Five, possibly six, Golden-crowned Kinglets were foraging in the upper and mid-canopy, near the beginning of the bluff trail at Old Cedar Avenue Bridge, in the latter part of this morning. They were just west of the pond outlet cutting through the trail, where beavers seem to have started a tiny dam. Despite the high winds, their high-pitched contact chips gave notice of their presence. They were easy to spot, given their active movements among the sparse foliage; it can't have been easy for them to hunt down insects today. Linda Whyte
