Cory Lake (Hamlin WMA) in Lac qui Parle County is being pumped dry in order to
kill rough fish, consolidate sediment, revitalize aquatic plant growth, and
ultimately improve water and habitat quality as the basin refills next year and
beyond. A substantial band of exposed mud flat has already started attracting
a few hundred shorebirds. As long as the area doesn't get any significant
rains, the lake should continue to come down and shorebird feeding conditions
will likely continue to improve as the migration heats up. There is a ΒΌ mile
long primitive landing/access (field road) on the east side of the lake. If
folks make a visit, and they are willing to share information, I'd appreciate
reports on numbers and species. Thank you!
