The possible Ross’s Goose seen yesterday at Brookview Park in Golden Valley is
currently by the tennis courts and easily seen and photographed there. I think
it is worth mentioning that there is some question/discussion on whether this
bird is a pure Ross’s Goose or possibly a Ross’s Goose X Snow Goose hybrid. The
latter possibility is suggested by the bill being somewhat larger than the
usual stubby bill of a Ross’s, the head shape with the forehead being a little
more sloped than usual for a Ross’s, and the presence of modest grinning patch,
although certainly much less than expected for a pure Snow Goose. Further study
is underway.
