That would be amazing to see. Thanks for sharing, Steve. I saw a raft of thousand+ years ago off a cliff overlooking Lake Superior in the UP. That image is still with me today. It’s fascinating how they know how to do this.
Siskins started showing up here a week ago, but on Wednesday they arrived in droves. Must be at least 40 - best siskin numbers I’ve had in years. Hope they stay through the winter. A few purple finches showed up with them, too. Junco numbers seem to be a bit lower than normal, 25+, but I had a hawk hanging out here the first few weeks of their arrival - they could have moved on. * Tami in Afton ________________________________ From: Minnesota Birds <MOU-NET@LISTS.UMN.EDU> on behalf of Steve Weston <swesto...@gmail.com> Sent: Sunday, December 3, 2023 10:52:10 AM To: MOU-NET@LISTS.UMN.EDU <MOU-NET@LISTS.UMN.EDU> Subject: [mou-net] Loons and Pine Siskins I have a report that thousands of loons are staging on Lake Minnetonka. We have a hoard of Pine Siskins at our feeders this morning. I haven't had a view on how they were staging in the trees above the house to try to get a handle on the numbers.
