The Long-tailed Duck was still present on the Mississippi River in Coon Rapids
at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. It was staying near the far northwest corner of the
Coon Rapids Dam Park property. Best way to get there is to park at Mississippi
Blvd. and Uplander St. and take the trail south to the river. The bird stayed
close to the northern shore and northwest of where the walking trail meets the
river.

Viewing can be difficult from this point unless the ducks swim away from the
shore and towards the middle of the river. There is an informal trail that
follows the river to the northwest, but you need to cross a steep ravine to get
to it, and the trail is very wooded with not the best viewing opportunities. I
was able to see the duck both from this informal trail and the paved hiking
trail.
