The most recent sighting of the Carolina Wren at 3527 South 47th Avenue, South Minneapolis of which I am aware was at 1:10 p.m. yesterday, Saturday, July 18, when the bird was both singing and calling. Today (Sunday, July 19), six visits to this site and surrounding areas by two other birders and me from early morning to evening did not result in any sightings. One hypothesis is that the wren was blown in from the south by the 70 mile per hour winds that occurred overnight on July 17-18, spent the day in a limited area of South Minneapolis, and then headed back toward wherever it came from overnight on July 18-19.
I keep a bird list for the Friends of the Mississippi River for the 3 mile section of the river north of Lock and Dam #1, including the surface of the river and a narrow strip of land on the west side of the river. This is a new species for the list (1988-2015), number 172.
