Have you tried installing Mozart/Oz using Carbon Emacs (http://homepage.mac.com/zenitani/emacs-e.html), instead of Aquamacs? I have successfully installed Mozart/Oz on Mac OS X 10.2.8 Jaguar on Carbon Emacs with no startup errors; although that version of Mac OS works with a different version of Carbon Emacs, my Carbon Emacs was very stable, and the updated version for Tiger should be worth a try.
