Upon further thought, it seems that the only way that I will be able to work with Mozart/Oz again is with one of the following alternatives:
1. revert the OS to an earlier version which worked with Mozart/Oz (impractical, since I have already installed many applications since this problem has started occurring); 2. change the OS (impractical, since that would land me into deep trouble with the IT department); or 3. figure out how to divorce Mozart/Oz from Emacs, without losing the REPL (I do not feel comfortable in programming in an exploratory manner without a REPL). I just tried running ozengine.exe from within LispIDE (http://www.daansystems.com/lispide/), a "basic graphical shell for several Lisp and Scheme implementations available for Windows," but it almost crashed the system by opening 87 invocations of LispIDE before it stopped. Does anybody know a way of running Mozart/Oz with a REPL outside of Emacs, preferably in an editor or IDE? I suspect that the problem is that, for some reason, Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2, has some mysterious bug (or "feature") that prevents ozengine.exe from invoking Emacs, and that the bug somehow lies between ozengine.exe and Emacs, but not specifically with either one of them. -- Benjamin L.
