Yeah I know, not what you were looking for. One obvious solution is the one you don't like, have the user do it (force save with type 'octet-stream' and content-disposition 'save' (?) and then use the advanced panel method to import it. The browsers make it hard to slip keys in which I think is appropriate - there is a similarity in there which led me to post my prior reply in this thread.
You could of course have a customized version of the application that allows you to do this more readily. If you have administrative rights to the machine there are other approaches as well. I am curious, if you don't mind answering - how did you do the archival backup auto-magically?
