Now, my term as keeper of the trusted root list is over.
Another qualified NSS developer can carry it from here.
This is a good occasion to publicly thank you for all the work you've
done over the years putting CA certs into NSS, both during the time I've
been handling the policy and prior to that. Thanks!!
You're welcome, but don't give me too much credit. :)
I've only been maintaining it for the last 10 months.
NSS became open source on 3-31-2000, 5 years ago this week, exactly
2 years (to the day) after Netscape released the source to its browser,
which eventually evolved into the mozilla browsers we have today.
During those 5 years, the task of maintaining the root cert list has
been done by several of the NSS developers, including (in roughly
chronological order) Bob Relyea, Fred Roeber, Ian McGreer, Julien Pierre,
Wan-Teh Chang and me.
One can see a complete accounting for the work done on the root CA list
since it became open source at
http://bonsai.mozilla.org/cvslog.cgi?file=mozilla/security/nss/lib/ckfw/builtins/certdata.txt
I imagine that one of the NSS developers at RedHat will carry it forward.
