That unmoderated newsgroup is fed by a one-way mail-to-news relay, whose
source is the moderated [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list.
That mailing list is fed by a script that runs for each cvs checkin to
mozilla/security. Unlike the newsgroup, the mailing list is spam free.
The list is more important to preserve than the newsgroup, since the list
is the source that feeds the newsgroup.

There are 21 subscribers to the mailing list. I will not name them, but
will note that [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] are not among them.
It seems unlikely to me that any government agency employees have time to
spend lurking in the npm.crypto.checkins newsgroup, but it seems even
less likely that they'd openly subscribe to the mailing list.

In any case, the mailing list and newsgroup are two good ways for NSS
developers and developers of NSS-based applications to stay on top of
what's happening to NSS on the trunk and all branches. I see no reason
to discontinue either one.
