I agree this may be somewhat wrong place to ask this question. I would
advice the OpenSSL users forum. You should state very clearly what you
want - reading your message I can not tell what exactly it is you are

I already searched there. I found information that was useful in setup of Apache with mod_ssl, but nothing useful either on their web site or in their docs that would let me complete a pkcs12 version for browsers...it's like the ability is there, but nobody has ever asked, so there are no examples.

Maybe this person's requirements are such that it makes sense to use
OpenSSL (just a guess, since he did not provide enough info). Or maybe
he is more familiar with OpenSSL and can create the stuff he needs with
it easily, the only problem now being how to interoperate with Mozilla/NSS.

I imagine not all browsers are able to generate keys...up until now I didn't realize mozilla could. I probably will need to know how to deal with keys for other browsers later, but for the moment the mozilla way would be sufficient.
