Links look like good choices. I think something along the lines of the following can go here:Section empty, contribution welcome.Section 1 About mozilla.org
mozilla.org was created by Netscape to manage the open source code that forms the basis for Netscape, Beonex, and other clients. It acts as a benevolent dictator in that it generally allows the community to flow in whatever direction individual interests dictate, but will step in to resolve disputes and get things to follow a single track.
1.1 What is mozilla.org?
See above.
Link to Free Software foundations's definition. Open source is essentially a movement where a company or person makes the instructions that cause a computer to do something available for other people to see, use, and/or modify. The exact allowances depend on the license used.1.2 What is open source?
mozilla.org is more or less closed (acting as a dictator), however, it tries to follow the consensus of the open mozilla.org community. As for the browser and toolkits, just about everything is open. The exact details depend on how a particular file is licensed. For any specific details, ask in netscape.public.mozilla.license.1.3 How `open' is mozilla.org?
To my knowledge, AOL/TW provides financial resources to mozilla.org. Also, since Netscape is based on Mozilla, many improvements to Netscape are made to Mozilla as well.1.4 What is AOL's involvement in mozilla.org development?
This newsgroup/mailing list (netscape.public.mozilla.general) is for posts that do not fit in any other Mozilla list or are too general to fit in any of the other lists.Section 2 About this newsgroup/mailing list
I would personally say Mozilla is a parent more than a cousin. Netscape and Galeon would be cousins. Mozilla is their parent. Tell about the user groups on the secure server also. The netscape.public.mozilla.* groups are solely for use by developers working on the source code to Mozilla, the open-source cousin of Netscape Communicator. Postings about problems that you are having using your browser do not belong here. Questions about how to do some specific thing with your browser do not belong here. In short, unless you are in some way contributing work (code, bugfixes, documentation, localization, feature suggestions, etc.) to the Mozilla project you probably do not want to post here.2.1 Is this the right place to post general question about Mozilla?
Daniel, you might consider seeing if the mail server can send FAQs when "faq" is used as opposed to unsubscribe or subscribe. If so, the latest FAQ could be available on request.
