I'd like to stipulate that we try to only mimic good things, not bad things. :)

Actually, I would like to have the site navigational structure to build
on the URI structure. The URI is an important part of the navigation UI,
especially with the tech-savvy community we have here. I understand that
we need to have a flexible overall structure. The list of Mozilla-relevant
technologies is long and has no inherent hierarchy; this is why I want
to keep the top level flat.

But once we've entered the topic's directory, the content should be
strongly organized where possible. I see the site as a set of small,
tightly organized sections linked through and tied together by cross-
links and meta-topics (like "Application Development"). The organization
within each section should be bound to the URI structure; the navigation
flow among them is governed by links.

My favorite quote from the URI discussions -
"The navigational structure is a web, more or less. But a good web--
an organized web--has strong spokes for filaments to attach to, and
those spokes are the URI hierarchy. They maintain organization,
provide a well-defined path for navigation, and can be oriented to
   when lost."
