Despite the name these are *not* Netscape newsgroups.

All groups with Mozilla in their name are about the open source Mozilla
browser suite http://www.mozilla.org/ - Netscape is one of the
contributors of the Mozilla project and Netscape 6 is an early example
of a Mozilla based browser. However Netscape 6 was based on an early
version of mozilla so if you'd like to see the progress being made then
see the browser available from www.mozilla.org or wait for the next
Netscape release (rumoured to be called version 6.5 but this is not
official).

The reason Netscape host these groups on their news server is that they
are one of the biggest commercial contributors to the Mozilla project
and hosting these groups is one of the ways that they help as well as
funding a lot of developers. Netscape release their browsers based on
Mozilla code, but other companies are also free to do so.
