Keeping my < and >

I apologize if this has been asked before.  Searching on "<" and ">" doesn't
work very well.  For some reason, I get a lot of false hits.... :)

I really like Composer, but I can't figure out how to get it to leave my "<"
and ">"  alone.  It wants to change them to "&lt;" and "&gt;".  That really
messes up my script tags.  I've tried going into the HTML and manually
changing them, but they get changed back.   Is there any way to stop this?
If not, I'll have to give up on Composer, because this is a total show
stopper for me.  :(
