Hi,
for one year I'm searching for a way to use Mozilla/Firebird without any installation. ie. There should nothing be saved or read at or from the local drive like profile, registry.dat aso.

A couple of our customers like Lufthansa, Allianz/Dresdner Bank and some other global players have pretty restrictive installation terms. Installing anything at Lufthansa is usually more expensive than the product itself. In some cases it's not allowed to install anything at all.

Mozilla/Firebird offers a hugh perspective for a wide range of really great products but it's main focus seems to be private people. For business networks security plays a big role and that's where these restrictive installation rules came from. Offering a product that doesn't need to be installed is one really big argument for them.

The "business version" doesn't need to offer all those (nice) changeable features like themes, user.js, additional chromes... that need to be saved. All could be part of a default profile placed in the mozilla root dir.

We create a mozilla based authoring system to create browser based learning applications. Both the authoring system and the learning applications are for these companies. Offering them a "simple player" would be great and would be a big chance for the browser to gain more attention in an area that doesn't really know that Mozilla even exists.
It could be used on CD-ROMs for magazines. It could be used for presentations, applications, documentations anywhere without "touching a running system". What an argument!

I'm not able to jump into the source to change those C++ parts and I think it would definitely be of interest for a couple of other people and companies.

If Mozilla/Firebird supports this allready I would be happy to know how to use it. If it does not it's Nr. 1 on my Mozilla/Firebird wishlist.

Thanks
Daniel

I'm trying to find out exactly the same thing. Is it possible to run a special Moz/Fb edition from CD without installing anything (offline browser) ? That's why I came across the Moz ActiveX control. But as I understand it, if I write my own app using it, a user still needs the "mozctlx.dll" registered.

So I would be happy to find out if there is a solution.
Simon
