Html at first glance seemed for me as a hot candidate. But as far as I know
html it is not good for printing several pages with "nice" headers, footers,

What's wrong with LaTeX? There are LaTeX->html converters, and of course the PDF converters, etc... it seems like a good solution to me.


Other possible solutions include docbook.

HTML+CSS theoretically has the facilities you desire, but most CSS engines don't really support all of the fancy print-formatting CSS like fixed-position headers and footers, etc.
