Thanks again Dave. Yes, that bug is exactly the behavior I'm seeing - but the workaround Adam seems to be suggesting (navigating to "about:blank" and waiting for the DOM to be initialized) is something I'm already trying.
Also, I'm not coming from a scripting language but from strongly-typed C#, so I think the scripting-related concerns are confusing the real issue.
