Could you give me a clue at which interfaces I should look at. Especially these linking visual elements with document structure.
Isn't it sufficient to just catch the click events generated when a user clicks on the page? Those have a .target property that gives you the DOM node clicked on.
That's certainly what DOM inspector does.
