No, nothing is wrong with inheritance, just the theme specifies a 
background color(white) for email and newsgroups, but uses the default 
text color from preferences, so if you have a lite color as your default 
text color you can't read email. It is WRONG to specific background 
color without specifying text color, in my opinion it should specify 
neither and leave it up to the defaults completely, I've hacked 
(patched) my modern theme to behave correctly.
