Installing .xpi files

I have a copy of spellchk.xpi in my files (it came from a download of 
N6). I have installed it on many recent versions of Mozilla by means of 
FTP from the Netscape sight. My question is how do istall the file 
directly without the download which does it automartically.

Spellchecking is an important feature to many of us. It ought to be 
included in Mozilla.
