Actually it can be used very well. Show a thumbnail picture on a page, click it
and popup the full size so you don't have to hit BACK and wait for the page to
re-render, etc. On the sites where I use it, it's almost always labeled as "this
will pop-up a new window", and personally, it makes good use. :)
