Well, you're not alone, sort-of. I get the same thing happening when I drag a link from a mail message to a browser; the throbber goes blank and the page won't load until do some extensive mousing. Mousing up to the toolbars usually does the trick. Occasionally going to the next unused message in a news group, using the keyboard shortcut, also freezes until I mouse over something significant, again, usually some chrome. Very annoying. Couldn't find a bug for it, so I've filed: <http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=120877>, you probably want to add some comments describing your symptoms to the bug.
