The "darn" back and forward performance doesn't matter at all.

First, it's only slightly slower than IE.

Second, work on this is being done, but hardly high priority - why 
should it be?

Third, how often do you go back and forward? Come on! If you can't 
decide to which page in your history to go, then let it be! If you just 
want several pages open at once, use tabbrowser.
