You've simply hit a software bug, the mail client is being continuously
updated and improved, if you get a newer version of the software then
this problem is probably fixed, because I'm using a newer version and it
works for me.

a "plain old jpeg" is a Joint Photographic Experts Group Image File
(it's an acronym), you've just associated it with netscape.

The user agent string (what it tells the world it is) is Mozilla 5.0,
just as Netscape 4.x tells the world it's Mozilla 4.0. Mozilla used to
be the internal netscape code name for their browser. In 1998, Netscape
released their source code and formed the Mozilla Organization
(http://www.mozilla.org), a group which most people that post to this
newsgroup are part of, which is dedicated to making a better browser.
This group puts out a browser suite called Mozilla. Other companies,
such as Netscape itself, copy this open source browser, add some
features (like the AIM client and spellchecker in Netscape 6.2.1) and
release it as their own browser. Netscape 6.2.1 is actually known around
here as Mozilla 0.9.4, which was released several months ago. The newest
version of the Mozilla browser is 0.9.8 which will be out in a few days.
There have been thousands upon thousands of bugs fixed between the two
releases, if you want to fix your problem and numerous other problems,
simply visit www.mozilla.org several days from now and look for the link
to download 0.9.8 (don't bother getting 0.9.7, wait a few days for the
new version). It should run faster with less problems.
