Here's what worked for me, but I admit I don't know exactly what I'm doing.
The mail is stored in files with the same name as the container; e.g.,
messages in your Inbox are stored in two files called Inbox and Inbox.msf.
The location of the files is in a user-specific file:
On a Win98SE computer:
windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\<user
name>\<????????.slt>\Mail\<mail storage directory name>\
where <user name> is your user name, <????????.slt> is a
directory ending in .slt, and <mail storage directory name> is the name
of the file you have selected for storing your mail (on my computer it's
[EMAIL PROTECTED]).
On a Linux computer:
~/.mozilla/<user name>/<????????.slt>/Mail/<mail storage filename>/
Subdirectories of a mail directory are stored as subdirectories within
<mail storage directory name>. For example, a subdirectory of Inbox
called stuff would be stored within ... /<mail storage directory
name>/Inbox.sbd/; the filenames would be stuff and stuff.msf.
It looks like (for example) the Inbox.msf file stores e-mail summary
message information and Inbox stores the actual messages.
I was able to transfer mail from a Linux Mozilla to a Win98SE Mozilla
by copying the (e.g.) Inbox and Inbox.msf files from the Linux
directory to the Win98SE directory. Of course this operation overwrites
ALL messages in the Inbox. You should be able to rename the files to
avoid loss; for example, rename Inbox and Inbox.msf as Inbox_1 and
Inbox_1.msf. (I haven't tried this as yet).
You can find the location of your Mail on your system by searching for
the file named Inbox (or Inbox.msf if your Inbox is not empty).
Good Luck!
