How about if this shortcut '.' notation gets included
in the next CSS spec (and gets implemented in Mozilla
asap)?  Seems like a pragmatic way to go about it unless
it ruins or makes inelegant some aspect of CSS.

I see CSS class selection as being so pervasive and
important that to implement browser detection code just
to have it work under both IE and Mozilla unacceptable.

In this respect it is likely that web developers might
ignore Mozilla compatibility (thus working against its
popularity) since even Opera supports the '.' notation.
