Two things that people here may be interested in (apologies if they're
common knowledge):
* There's an egroups list (OK, now "Yahoo Groups". Whatever.) for people
interested in HTTP compliance. There are a lot of intermediary vendors
on the list, but not many client people. Currently, there is an effort
to build a compliance test suite, and rumours of some effort from the
W3C in this area.

* A new IETF WG has been chartered - WEBI, for Web Intermediaries. One
of the work items is to specify an "Intermediary Discovery and
Description Protocol" - i.e., a replacement for WPAD and Javascript
proxy configuration. We're in the requirements gathering phase, and
would very much like the participation of client people.

(this charter is being slightly revised)
For a Web archive of the list, see
http://www.wrec.org/webi-archive/
In both cases, input and participation from Necko people would be valued
and hopefully mutally beneficial.
Cheers,
