[Crossposted to n.p.m.browser and n.p.m.netlib - followup to .browser.]

About a month ago, I filed bug 115539 [1] about Mozilla automatically
trying to add "www." and ".com" to domain names when it can't resolve
the name. For example, if you type "mozilla" in the location bar and
press enter, Mozilla will try www.mozilla.com as well before reporting
that it couldn't resolve the name. I find that a waste of time and
bandwidth, a potential security risk, and generally a Bad Thing.

Mozilla's behavior has caused two other bugs: Bug 34943 [2], which is
about Mozilla also trying to add www. and .com when you click a link,
and bug 66183 [3], which is about Mozilla incorrectly saying that
"www.mozilla.com" doesn't exist when all you typed was "mozilla".

This bug has now been WONTFIXed, and I was told to take it to the
newsgroups to see if anyone else thought that Mozilla's behavior should
be changed. It seems to be a very easy bug to fix, since all that has to
be done is to *remove* some code, and it would also fix bug 34943, which
is currently targeted at Mozilla 1.0 though no work seems to be going
on, and bug 66183, which is futured but can be quite annoying.

So, does anyone agree with me? If so, please speak up so we can get this
fixed!
