Firstly, you're in the wrong group here - see

Firefox doesn't need to have a server open to the outside world -
ZoneAlarm's presentation of the issue is a bit lacking.

Firefox and Mozilla use network sockets for communication between the
browser and the separate module that handles connections to secure
websites (among other things).  It's a convenient way of doing the
communication which works the same in Windows, Linux, and other versions
of Mozilla and Firefox.

Depending on your firewall, it shouldn't do any harm to block the server
(because the connections will only come from your own computer).  If you
do allow it to "act as a server", you can be assured that the only thing
that can connect to that server is the browser on your own computer.
