If you haven't already seen it...
slashdot article says it's only for IE now but they are working on
firefox extension but I couldn't see that anywhere on netcraft's site.
Thanks for the tip-off!
I hope it's less ugly and intrusive when it comes to Firefox.
Well, phishing is a pretty big change to
the way security is done, so we can expect
to see some awful experimentation until
the final recipe is settled on and agreed.
What I find much more interesting other
than the alpha look is the notion of using
a central database for security lookups.
There are only O(100k) SSL sites so why
not?
In the end, that's counter-productive - people are not going to
install and leave enabled something that takes up over an inch of
precious vertical screen real-estate.
Curiously, I gather that people do exactly
that. Many people I know have lots of bars
set by default on the top of the browser,
and they think I'm wierd for trying to turn
them off, and reconfigure mailers to be
tiled sideways instead of horizontally.
A more common complaint appears to be
that this (or that) plugin interferes with
that (or the other) plugin; which seems
to indicate the biggest problem is not
real estate.
In the end, we really have to wait and see
what the users think of this innovation.
There are enough balls in the air with
this one that a techies' analysis is probably
going to get distracted on issues that turn
out to be ultimately irrelevant. (The one
that pops to my mind is "how can that
scale" ...)
