Do you have flash enabled?
Flash, being a plugin, can freely open windows.
I also found an extension called "Popups must die". It doesn't appear
to be in addons.mozilla.org and I might have gotten it from Asa's blog
or somewhere which apparently has better blocking abilities (It's going
to be in the newer versions of Firefox - 1.1 I believe)
